IN & OUT OF LIFE - Chapter 127 - It's a girl (Jeremy)

IT ' S A GIRL (Jeremy ~ 1949-1950) I enter a hospital room, hol d ing flowers wrapped in plastic foil. My wife and three kids are with me. One of the girls is wearing a bright green coat. My sister-in-law T racy i s sitting up in the bed by the window, holding the baby. Josh is standing between the bed and the window with his hands in his pockets . The baby seems so big and… so light skinn ed. " He takes after you " I say to Josh. He looks proud and has a grin on his face. " It ' s a girl " he says, to which Tracy laugh s with that sharp and loud cackle of hers. " Is it a guuurl? " my yellow-coated daughter asks in wonder. Penny ' s standing by, more mature than… well, than the baby ' s mother, if I may think so. Apparently having done her research, Penny suggests that we should leave the mother and baby alone for feeding. " Peeenny! " Louise promptly interrupts. Yes, Penny knows one mustn ' t bother the patient for t...

IN & OUT OF LIFE - Chapter 126 - A business proposal (Jeremy)

A BUSINESS PROPOSAL (Herman) I see a round wooden table by the wall in what appears to be a basement room. I ' m sitting on the chair to the right, rolling a cigarette on the table. Someone else is sitting on the chair to my left. I have a small pillbox with licorice drops in my right pocket. I insert a thin, copper-colored pin into the cigarette to straighten it, and then pull it out again after it ' s been rolled into shape. I give the pin to the other man. It ' s my son. He has a thick mustache. We brought our own tobacco here - we ' re in Switzerland - cause we like to stick to our usual brand. He now leans back against the chair and puts his cigarette in the right corner of his mouth without lighting it. We ' re waiting for someone.  ' When do you think Uncle Maurice will be here? ' he says, looking at the clock on the wall to his left. It ' s about three o'clock. I tell him not to be so nervous, that he ' ll be here and has probably bee...

IN & OUT OF LIFE - Chapter 125 - The church (Herman)

THE CHURCH (Herman) ~ 1860-1920 I see a church with dark reddish bricks. I ' m now inside the church at the back. I see round buns with sugar on top. There is wine too. It ' s a reception. The church is not officially in use yet. It needs to be blessed first, like a baptism. I go to the left side by the confession booths to meet a guy. He ' s younger than me and has reddish hair and a mustache. He has his right hand in his pocket. His name is Olivier. We talk a bit. For the sake of making conversation, I carefully ask him about the baby, not being completely sure if he ' s the guy who recently had a baby or not. His face lights up, apparently glad I asked and happy to talk about it rather than about work. ' She ' s good, she ' s good - a bit wobbly on her legs still ' he says, briefly demonstrating the way the little girl wobbles in the process of learning to walk. He then smiles, looks down, and stays quiet for a while. ' What about you? '...

IN & OUT OF LIFE - Chapter 124 - The ghost sister (Isabelle)

THE GHOST SISTER (Isabelle) ~ 1765-1765 Isabelle was the stillborn twin sister of Jean-Luc (X). She stayed with him as a spirit for 23 years, and he was aware of her presence. Part of their story is in Past Life Diary (part one) pages 117 to 120. I see a greenish doorway. I ' m in the corridor of the house. Someone lets someone else in through the door. The person who comes in is a man. I see his trousers. I don ' t understand what he ' s saying. They both go into the small sitting room, and I follow them. Someone puts some white pastries on a side table. I move around in the room, hovering rather than walking or flying. This is surely going to be a boring encounter, I think. My brother ' s a young adult. He ' s talking to his uncle about something serious, something boring with wheels. I get tired of his endless thinking about angles and measurements. I wish he would put a sweet bun in his mouth so I could feel it. That would make me feel alive. This man, the unc...

IN & OUT OF LIFE - Chapter 123 - Metal polish (Eilie)

METAL POLISH (Eilie) ~ 1712-1764 I see the decorated gray walls of buildings on both sides of a narrow street of alley. The road is paved. The soles of my shoes are flat and sturdy. I ' m walking wide legged. My dress or skirt comes just a little above the ankles. I have something with me in a cloth bag. I ' m bringing it somewhere on behalf of someone else, i.e. I ' m running an errand. Inside the bag are two long keyhole plates, decorated but not glossy. The long key which matches the lock is included. The keyhole plates themselves must be re-polished at the shop. I like this little shop, the smell, and just waiting here with nothing to do but think. As I stand here waiting, I decide to fantasize about a guy by the water, the imaginary water being clear and turquoise, the sounds equally clear. I try to imagine him more handsome than he really is, with light blue eyes, the same color as the water… The shopkeeper comes back and says the item will have to stay here overnig...

IN & OUT OF LIFE - Chapter 122 - Finnia (Maria)

FINNIA (Maria) ~ 1669-1711 The life of Maria has been moderately documented on a few occasions. To recap: She and her little brother were orphaned at a young age. She worked as a prostitute in a brothel and later as a stripper in the circus. She died in her early forties from what appears to have been an ailment of the urinary tract. It's very noisy. Children are running around among the crowd of people. I see a girl (L) who looks about twelve years old, perhaps a bit too tall for her age as she seems to act a bit immaturely in comparison to her size. She's running after someone, calling out in a teasing manner, singing " lalala " . I feel the wind on my face and in my hair, which is done up in a bun. A man dressed in black with a hat comes and greets me from the left behind me. Oh, it's him - I think, disappointed and rather wanting to get rid of him. Nevertheless, I engage myself in a little talk with him, not facing him. We're all looking in one dir...

IN & OUT OF LIFE - Chapter 121 - Zee-Zee (Rokoto)

ZEE-ZEE (Rokoto) ~ 1631-1668 For an earlier introduction to the life of Rokoto, see: Past Life Diary 1 - Story 104. I'm bare chested. I feel the heat of the sun on my upper arms. I'm just casually walking in the sand, looking around at nothing in particular, thinking about a metal bucket of water, about me carrying a bucket of water from the well where I got it. It's a nice social occasion when people gather at the well - refreshing too. I'm walking over to a white, rectangular house with decorative edges around the flat roof. I'm going over to meet a man I know. When I reach the house, a young boy opens the door. The man in question then comes to the door, meanwhile drying his arms and elbows with a towel. He has a mustache and is perhaps in his mid-thirties. I recognize him as U. 'What are you doing here?' he inquires. I shrug and half smile before coming up with an answer. I tell him I need his advice on something. I assume he'll let me in, but...
