PAST LIFE DIARY 2 - Story 407 - The end of a day (Melinde)

THE END OF A DAY (Melinde)

I'm outside in the field, looking at the horses passing by as they practice. I hear two men laughing and talking as they come walking from the left in my direction. I hold my arms crossed in front of me. The inner lining of my clothing is heavy against the cold. I feel peaceful. Sunset is something I never want to miss. It's a ritual. If the sun is always there for this ritual, so should I. There's a lot of talk from the men, now off the horses. They take turns. I wish they would stop moving around, blocking the view. I have some coins in my right pocket. I'm saving up - to buy a horse, maybe.

Alright... The day is done, and I have work to do, cleaning the leather armors and tending to the men's sore feet. Keeping the feet healthy is very important. I carry one of the men's weapons to his tent, and lay them in their proper place. I then come out of the tent and say 'goodnight'. He seems to have other plans. "Marilinda" he says, drunk enough to be less understanding of the fact that there are other men awaiting my help. He makes an inarticulate sound expressing that he's ill-pleased, and enters his tent. I smile at the thought that he'll probably lie down straight away and jerk himself off.
